5-week Marine Cartography Program offered at KHOA, starting from June 16, 2014

An FIG/IHO/ICA Category B Marine Cartography program is being delivered at KHOA for 5 weeks from June 16 to July 18, 2014, hosted by the Korea Oceanographic and Hydrographic Association (KOHA). The program is conducted by four instructors from the United Kingdom Hydrographic Office (UKHO), and a total of seven trainees of KHOA and KOHA are taking part in this training course.

The UKHO has more than 200 years’ history in hydrographic surveying and chart production, and it was the first organization in the world to gain the FIG/IHO/ICA Category B in relation to its Hydrographic Data Processing and Marine Cartography course with specialism The Electronic Navigational Chart (ENC).

As the last module of the 3-module program, this course aims to provide a practical comprehension of nautical cartography, in particular on Electronic Navigational Chart. The course will cover the history and development of ENC, introduction to GIS, etc., followed up with practical exercises.

It is expected that this training program will providevaluable opportunities for KHOA to further develop its nautical chart production technology, leading to the enhancement of safety of navigation.
