Two graduates of the Master of Science Degree in Hydrographic Science successfully completed their studies at the University of Southern Mississippi (USM) and a graduation recognition ceremony was held at the Gulf Park Campus on 3 August 2017. The graduates are Mr. Abdul Halim Ahmad Nordin (Malaysia) and Mr. Gilbert Alviola (Philippines) sponsored by the Republic of Korea (ROK) through the Capacity Building programme of the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO). Mr. HUH Yong represented KHOA and delivered a speech during the ceremony congratulating the graduates. The degree is recognized as “Category A” by the FIG-IHO-ICA International Board on Standards of Competence for Hydrographic Surveyors and Nautical Cartographers (IBSC).
It has been more than five years since KHOA sponsored students to participate in the degree programme at the USM and there are 12 graduates to date. Ms. Valentina Pavel from Romania was selected to join the 2017-2018 class. The next call for applications is likely to be in September through an IHO circular letter.
