KOICA Programme for Ocean Policy Making and Management

The Korea Hydrographic and Oceanographic Agency (KHOA) conducted the KOICA Programme for Ocean Policy Making and Management which took place from 19 to 27 September 2017 in Busan, Republic of Korea. The programme supports capacity building of senior officers who establish and implement ocean policy based on the knowledge and experience obtained throughout the programme and was sponsored by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA). Eight officers from six different hydrographic offices with varying backgrounds including hydrography, oceanography and port management gave useful insight into the programme. They were introduced to the hydrographic, oceanographic and cartographic process in place at KHOA. They were also taken to the Busan New Port to see how the largest port in Korea is efficiently managed, Korea National Maritime Museum and other institutions as well as excursions for cultural experience.

KHOA has been running KOICA Ocean Observation and Hydrographic Survey programmes since 2011 and trained 117 participants from 35 countries to date and will continue to run the programmes in the future.
