GEBCO meetings in Busan, Republic of Korea

The Korea Hydrographic and Oceanographic Agency (KHOA) and the Hydrographic Society of Korea (HySK) co-hosted the Annual IHO-IOC GEBCO (General Bathymetric Chart of the Oceans) meetings in Busan, Republic of Korea from 13 to 17 November 2017.

IHO-IOC GEBCO Guiding Committee (GGC) is jointly run by the International Hydrographic Organization and Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission and the GEBCO Project was initiated in 1903 to collect bathymetric data and map the Earth’s oceans. Two Sub-Committee meetings of GGC - Technical Sub-Committee for Ocean Mapping (TSCOM) and Sub-Committee for Regional Undersea Mapping (SCRUM) - were jointly held from 13 to 14 November. They were followed by the GEBCO Symposium on 15 November, which brings together international experts to discuss innovative technologies and approaches that are pushing the boundaries of ocean floor mapping.  There were 24 oral presentations and 10 posters. The 34th GGC meeting was then held from 16 to 17 November.

We received highly positive compliments from both the IHO Secretariat staff and participants for having delivered efficient logistics to ensure smooth running of GEBCO meetings.
