'Joint Research Underway To Measure Denarau-Malolo Area'

We’d like to share an article published by the newspaper Fiji Sun on 20 July 2018 titled ‘Joint Research Underway To Measure Denarau-Malolo Area’: https://bit.ly/2LBMnn6

KHOA and the Fiji Hydrographic Services (FHS) are currently conducting a joint hydrographic survey of the Denarau and Malolo Island as part of the Official Development Assistance Project supported by the Republic of Korea from 2016 to 2020. The survey began in May and will be finished by mid-August. Once the survey data is processed, we’re going to transfer the technology on how to publish nautical charts within year.

Lt. Cdr. Saula Tuilevuka, FHS Director, said: “The Denarau-Malolo Island approaches were identified as critical to shipping due to the concentration of shipping in the area and proximity of maritime navigational hazards.”

The survey also involved handing over of various survey equipment to the FHS which satisfy the standards of the International Hydrographic Organization.

We’re thrilled to continue close cooperation with the FHS to reinforce the capacity for hydrographic survey and responding to climate change in Fiji.
