Ongjinsocheongcho Ocean Research Station

The Largest & Base of High-Tech

Ongjinsocheongcho Ocean Research Station

About the Station

The Ongjinsocheongcho Ocean Resesarch Station is located in the central part of the Yellow Sea. As the increase of importance of marine environment and established information, it was built to increase the accuracy of marine and weather forecasts in the Yellow Sea and protect the environment. Yellow Sea is a place of great importance for observation because various marine phenomena, meteorological, and atmospheric composition materials are connected to Korea by westerly winds. In particular, it provides information about atmospheric environment such as dust, ozone, and radioactivity, which are emerging as major issues in Korea, and is used to monitor the Yellow Sea due to changes bottom layer in the yellow sea and changes in the global marine environment. Since the Yellow Sea is an important location for maritime transportation, it plays an important role in securing safe routes.
