The Act on Hydrographic Survey and Oceanographic Observation and the Use of Ocean Information, which was included in the existing land survey and cadastral act (Act on the Establishment, Management, etc. of Spatial Data), will be separated independently to strengthen hydrographic survey and oceanographic observation capacities and leverage ocean information.

The new Act is supplemented with articles on systematic management and use of ocean information. In particular articles on access to and standardizing/acquiring/processing ocean information have been added to promote its use and this proves a change in the perception that ocean information is of value in various fields such as global warming and ocean industry.

The Act was promulgated in February 2020 for enforcement in February 2021. Its official English name and the English version will be provided in due course. https://bit.ly/2Jy34jZ
